Sergeant Harry Abbott


12th Battalion, West Yorkshire Regiment

Died 23.07.1916 at the age of 29


This Remembrance Day, we honour the memory of Harry Abbott. He is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial in Somme, France.


The Thiepval Memorial, known as the Memorial to the Missing of the Somme, bears the names of more than 72,000 officers and men of the UK and South African forces who died in the Somme before 20 March 1918.



Second Lieutenant Benjamin Sydney Appleyard


2nd Battalion, Yorkshire Regiment

Died 29.09.1918 at the age of 27


This Remembrance Day, we honour the memory of Benjamin Sydney Appleyard. He rests at Chapel Corner Cemetery, Sauchy-Lestree in Pas de Calais, France.

This cemetery holds 178 WWI burials, including 29 unidentified soldiers.


Originally containing 50 graves at the time of the Armistice, the cemetery grew as remains were recovered from the surrounding battlefields and cemeteries, Epinoy Road and Lecluse Crucifix.




Private Abraham Ashworthy


1st/4th Battalion, Cheshire Regiment

Died 14.10.1918 at the age of 18


This Remembrance Day, we honour the memory of Abraham Ashworthy. He Is buried at Hooge Crater Cemetery in Ypres, West-Flanders, Belgium.


Designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens, the cemetery was begun by the 7th Division Burial Officer in early 1917. 5,922 WWI commonwealth servicemen are buried or commemorated, of these 3.578 are unidentified.




 Private G. Bellamy


2nd Battalion, Royal Irish Regiment

Died 26.08.1914


This Remembrance Day, we honour the memory of G. Bellamy. He is commemorated at St. Symphorien Military Cemetery in Mons, Hainault, Belgium.


229 WWI commonwealth servicemen are commemorated in the cemetery, 65 of which are unidentified. The cemetery is believed to contain the graves of both the 1st and last soldier to be killed in the First World War.




Private John Charles


8th Battalion, Lincolnshire Regiment

Died 03.07.1916


This Remembrance Day, we honour the memory of John Charles. He is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial in Somme, France.

Private Arthur Colson


15th Battalion, Royal Welsh Fusiliers

Died 25.07.1917 at the age of 28


This Remembrance Day, we honour the memory of Arthur Colson. He is commemorated on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial in Ypres, West-Flanders, Belgium.

Menin Gate is one of four memorials to the missing in Belgian Flanders which covers the area known as the Ypres Salient.


The Salient formed during the first Battle of Ypres in October and November 1914. The second Battle of Ypres began April 1915 when Germans released poison gas into Allied lines, this was the first time gas had been used on either side.




 Gunner John Cruise


294th Siege Battery, Royal Garrison Artillery

Died 26.09.1917 at the age of 39


This Remembrance Day, we honour the memory of John Cruise. He is commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial in Zonnebeke, West-Flanders, Belgium. The Tyne Cot Memorial is one of four memorials to the missing in Belgian Flanders.




Lance Corporal Robert Dixon


1st/6th Battalion, West Yorkshire Regiment

Died 09.12.1917 at the age of 21


This Remembrance Day, we honour the memory of Robert Dixon. He is commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial in Zonnebeke, West-Flanders, Belgium. The Tyne Cot Memorial is one of four memorials to the missing in Belgian Flanders.




Private Alfred Green


1st Battalion, Scots Guards

Died 11.11.1914

1st/8th Battalion, Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derby Regiment)

Died 07.08.1915

Private H. Morley


3rd Battalion, Grenadier Guards

Died 29.09.1915


This Remembrance Day, we honour the memory of H. Morley. He is laid to rest at the Bethune Town Cemetery in Pas de Calais, France.


This is the final resting place of 3,004 Commonwealth soldiers from the First World War and 19 burials from the Second World War.


The Commonwealth section of the cemetery was thoughtfully designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens.




 Company Sergeant Major Harry Pass


18th Battalion, West Yorkshire Regiment

Died 05.07.1916 at the age of 26


This Remembrance Day, we honour the memory of Harry Pass. He is buried in the Beauval Communal Cemetery in Somme, France.


This cemetery contains the graves of 248 Commonwealth servicemen from the First World War and 1 from the Second World War. The Commonwealth plot was designed by G.H. Goldsmith.




Able Seaman Frank Reveley


H.M.S. ‘India’, Royal Navy

Died 08.08.1915


This Remembrance Day, we honour the memory of Frank Reveley. He is commemorated on the Chatham Naval Memorial in Kent.


This memorial provides an appropriate way to commemorate members of the Royal Navy whose deaths occurred at sea where no permanent memorial could be erected. The Obelisk was designed by Sir Robert Lorimer with the help of sculptor by Henry Poole.

This memorial commemorates more than 8,500 sailors from the First World War and over 10,000 from the Second World War.




Private Maxwell Solomon


1st Battalion, Scots Guards

Died 14.09.1914 at the age of 25


This Remembrance Day, we honour the memory of Maxwell Solomon. He is buried in the Vendresse Churchyard in Aisne, France.


Over 80 casualties from the First World War are commemorated, about half are unidentified.




Private J.A. Teale


15th Battalion, West Yorkshire Regiment

Died 03.05.1917 at the age of 33


This Remembrance Day, we honour the memory of J.A. Teale. He was laid to rest in the Brown’s Copse Cemetery, Roeux, in Pas de Calais, France.


The Cemetery contains 2,068 burials and commemorations from the First World War, 858 of which are unidentified.


The cemetery was thoughtfully designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens.




Private W. Turner


3rd Battalion, Scots Guards

Died 24.04.1915


This Remembrance Day, we honour the memory of W. Turner. He is commemorated on the Brompton Cemetery in London.


The memorial commemorates 375 First World War Commonwealth Servicemen.




Private Ernest J. Tyler


6th Battalion, Bedfordshire Regiment

Died 15.07.1916


This Remembrance Day, we honour the memory of Ernest J. Tyler. This Remembrance Day, we honour the memory of Hubert Charles Hamblin. He is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial in Somme, France.

This Remembrance Day, we honour the memory of Arthur Wild. He buried at the Vieille-Chapelle New Military Cemetery, Lacouture in Pas de Calais, France.

There are 994 war casualties buried on this site.
