A few weeks ago, a group of our amazing museum volunteers took part in a First Aid course at the University of Bradford. This hands-on training covered everything from CPR and how to treat wounds, to staying calm in an emergency - vital skills for anyone working with the public.
With so many of you - school groups, history lovers, and curious families - coming through our doors each year, your safety is always top of mind. By becoming First Aid trained, our volunteers are even better prepared to make sure your visit is not just educational and enjoyable, but safe too.
Our Volunteer Shop Manager, Bev, said
“I found the course to be fun and friendly. It was far better having one just for museum volunteers. The instructor went at a pace we needed with no question too silly. I certainly had an enjoyable time”
Willum, our Volunteer Tour Guide recalled,
"Our lecturer was absolutely brilliant at explaining and demonstrating things. We were able to practice on each other, to learn how to check to see if people were breathing, and also how to put them into the recovery position. In the afternoon we were shown how to use a defibrillator. We were later shown how to deal with traumas and injuries.
Everyone enjoyed themselves, and we all learnt very useful things. Hopefully we will never need to use them. I would recommend that everyone given the opportunity should attend a short first aid course"
Furthermore, Raham, our Volunteer Weekend Manager and Tour Guide explained
“The course provided clear and concise instructions in how not only recognise people in difficulties but on how to save their lives”
We’re incredibly proud of our volunteers for gaining their Emergency First Aid at Work Certificate and grateful to the University of Bradford for making this training possible. It's another wonderful example of how local institutions can come together to support our community.
