bradford police museum

Located in the historical City Hall Bradford the museum provides a unique insight into the history and heritage of policing, criminal justice, civic enforcement and the development of crime and punishment in Bradford from the early 19th century onwards.

The museum situated on the site of the original 19th century police station in City Hall and which was operational between 1874 and 1974 brings together exhibits, documents and memorabilia relating to the history of policing from the inception of the Bradford Borough Police force in the mid 19th century to the present day.

The collection includes Victorian police truncheons, uniforms and a unique photographic archive covering 150 years of policing in the city. Much of this collection has never been seen by the public before.

Visits to the muse
um include guided tours of the original Victorian cells which formed part of the original police station together with a visit to the beautifully preserved Victorian Court room.

The museum had preview sneak peek openings during August and early September 2014 which were extremely popular and opened as part of the first Bradford Literature Festival also in September 2014

The Bradford Police Museum will be closed for winter from 19th November 2016 and reopen in Spring 2017 for general admission.

Large groups who have not booked a group tour and wish to visit during general opening are asked to contact the museum in advance.

There is wheelchair and pushchair access to the gallery and the cells.

However due to the existence of steep steps the court room can not be accessed by wheelchairs or pushchairs.

There is no pushchair storage on site.

The last tour of the cells and court will start 40 minutes before the museum closes.
