Volunteer & Operations Officer (Part-time)

Salary: £9,585 per annum (£26,325 full-time equivalent)

Hours: 710 annualised paid hours, including paid annual leave

Contract: 12-month fixed term, with the possibility of renewal

Start date: Monday 4 January 2027

Location: Bradford Police Museum, City Hall, Bradford, with hybrid working

About the Role

Bradford Police Museum is looking for a friendly, organised and reliable person to join our small team as Volunteer & Operations Officer.

Based in Bradford's historic City Hall, our museum brings the history of policing and criminal justice in Bradford to life through guided tours, exhibitions, educational visits and events. We're supported by a fantastic team of volunteers, and this role will play an important part in keeping everything running smoothly behind the scenes.

You'll help coordinate our volunteers, manage day-to-day administration, respond to enquiries, support our Saturday public opening and make sure the museum's systems and processes are well organised.

This is a varied role, ideal for someone who enjoys working with people, is comfortable managing different tasks and can work independently while being part of a supportive team.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Supporting our volunteer teams, including coordinating rotas, communications and new volunteer inductions.

  • Managing general enquiries, bookings and routine correspondence.

  • Maintaining administrative records, calendars and internal systems.

  • Supporting our Saturday public opening and working closely with Front of House volunteers and Weekend Managers.

  • Managing regular guided tour ticketing and helping with booking administration.

  • Supporting routine financial administration, including invoices, purchases and record-keeping.

  • Helping organise meetings, maintain documents and support the museum's day-to-day operations.

What We're Looking For

We're looking for someone who is approachable, organised and confident communicating with different people. You'll need good administration and IT skills, attention to detail and the ability to manage your workload independently.

Experience working with volunteers, in a charity or within a museum or heritage organisation would be helpful, but isn't essential. We're equally interested in transferable skills from other sectors.

Working Arrangements

This role offers flexible annualised hours to reflect the museum's seasonal activities.

During the main operating season, the preferred working pattern is Thursday, Friday and Saturday, 10am–3pm, with Saturday spent at the museum supporting public opening and volunteer teams. Thursdays and Fridays can generally be worked remotely.

During our quieter winter period, from late November to early February, hours reduce to approximately eight per week, which can be worked remotely.

Your annual salary will be paid in equal monthly instalments throughout the year, and paid annual leave is included within your contracted hours.

  1. This role involves managing different administrative tasks, responding to enquiries and supporting volunteers. Can you tell us about a time when you had to organise several tasks or responsibilities? How did you make sure everything was completed?

  2. Our museum relies on a large team of volunteers with different roles and experiences. How would you approach building positive working relationships with volunteers and making sure they feel supported and informed?

Your examples don't need to come from a museum or heritage setting. Experience from employment, volunteering, education or other activities is equally welcome.
