About the Role

Bradford Police Museum is looking for a creative, organised and enthusiastic person to join our small team as Visitor Experience & Programmes Officer.

Our museum brings Bradford's fascinating history of policing and criminal justice to life through guided tours, exhibitions, educational visits and events, all supported by a brilliant team of volunteers.

This role will help us coordinate and promote these activities, making sure visitors, schools and community groups have a welcoming and engaging experience.

You'll support our education programme, help organise events, work with our curatorial volunteers and assist with marketing and communications. It's a varied position that would suit someone who enjoys organising activities, working with people and sharing stories with different audiences.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Coordinating school visits and educational bookings, including communicating with teachers and arranging volunteers.

  • Supporting the organisation and delivery of museum events, including Trial by Jury performances and special activities.

  • Working alongside our curatorial volunteers to support exhibitions and ongoing projects.

  • Maintaining website information and helping create newsletters, event listings and promotional content.

  • Supporting our volunteer-led social media and communications activity.

  • Managing event bookings and liaising with speakers, performers and external partners.

  • Collecting visitor feedback and helping evaluate our programmes and activities.

  • Supporting existing partnerships and funded projects through routine administration and coordination.

What We're Looking For

We're looking for someone who is organised, friendly and enjoys working with different people.

You'll need strong communication skills, good attention to detail and confidence using digital systems. An interest in education, events, museums or heritage would be beneficial.

Experience supporting activities, events, communications or community projects would be useful, but we're equally interested in people who can demonstrate relevant skills from other sectors.

You don't need to be a museum expert. We're looking for someone willing to learn, contribute ideas and help our activities run smoothly.

Working Arrangements

This role offers flexible annualised hours to reflect the museum's seasonal activities.

During the main operating season, the preferred working pattern is Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, 10am–3pm, with Wednesday spent at the museum working alongside the curatorial team and supporting ongoing projects. Mondays and Tuesdays can generally be worked remotely.

During our quieter winter period, from late November to early February, hours reduce to approximately eight per week, which can be worked remotely.

Your annual salary will be paid in equal monthly instalments throughout the year, and paid annual leave is included within your contracted hours.

  1. This role involves supporting events, school visits and exhibitions. Can you give an example of a time you helped organise an activity, event or project? What was your role, and how did you help things run smoothly?

  2. An important part of this role is helping us promote museum activities and engage with different audiences. How would you approach creating a short piece of information or publicity for an event or activity to make it interesting and accessible?

Your examples don't need to come from a museum or heritage setting. Experience from employment, volunteering, education or other activities is equally welcome.
