Overview
Our Learning & Schools Volunteers play a vital role in delivering engaging, interactive visits for school groups at Bradford Police Museum. Working as part of a supportive team, you’ll help bring local policing history to life through storytelling, roleplay, and hands-on activities.
This is a practical, in-person role that offers valuable experience in museum learning and education. Whether you’re looking to build a career in the sector or use your existing experience in a meaningful way, this role offers the chance to develop confidence, work with young people, and contribute to a growing and impactful schools programme.

Time Commitment
This is an in-person volunteer role at The Bradford Police Museum. Approx. 10–15 hours per month, depending on school bookings
(Typically Tuesdays or Thursdays during term time)
Role Description
Bradford Police Museum is seeking volunteers to support the delivery of its growing schools and learning programme.
This is a hands-on opportunity to gain experience in museum learning and public engagement, working directly with school groups in a unique historic setting. Volunteers will play an active role in delivering engaging, interactive sessions that bring policing history to life for young people.
As the museum continues to expand its educational offer, this role is key to building a sustainable and resilient programme for schools.
School visits are pre-booked and typically take place during term time on Tuesdays or Thursdays. Sessions run as:

Morning: 10:00 – 12:00

Afternoon: 12:30 – 14:30
Most school visits include both sessions. The museum currently hosts approximately 3–4 school visits per month.
Key Responsibilities

Support the delivery of structured school sessions alongside the volunteer team

Assist with interactive activities, including storytelling, roleplay, and object handling

Help guide and supervise groups of children throughout their visit

Communicate clearly with pupils, teachers, and fellow volunteers

Assist with the set-up and pack-down of learning materials
-
Contribute to creating a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment
Person Specification
We welcome applications from individuals interested in developing experience in museum learning, education, or public engagement. No prior museum experience is required.

Experience working with or supporting children (formal or informal)

Strong communication and interpersonal skills

Confidence engaging with small groups

Ability to work collaboratively within a team

Desirable:

Interest in heritage, museums, or education

Understanding of Key Stage 1, 2, or 3 learning
